Beating the Bounds

Sunday 13th May (Marshalls in place from 8.30am onwards

Sponsored Walk round the Parish Bounds

There is a long history of beating the bounds of parishes. It traditionally took place on Rogation Sunday, and involved parishioners walking round the boundaries of the Parish, with the purpose of instructing the young about their boundaries, making sure the boundary stones were still in place and blessing the land in the hope of a good harvest. It was done some 30 years ago in Westerham, and we hope to repeat the exercise this year as a sponsored walk, (or donations happily accepted) with a finale of a barbecue on the Green starting at 12.30pm. The object is to raise money for Westerham's floral arrangements, which the Westerham Society finances. http://www.visitwesterham.org.uk/whats-on/w-beating-the-bounds or Stuart Merrylees 07709 620281

Fair on the Green

19th May. 11am – 4.30pm

Attractions such as the Sea Scouts marching band and a jazz band to say nothing of the children’s favourite - Punch and Judy.  This is the real, traditional attraction as provided by only a handful of seasoned entertainers who belong to the ancient guild.  Other entertainments have included a clown, belly dancers, Morris dancers etc., a bouncy castle and lots of children’s games.  There are always tombolas and raffles plus plenty of refreshments. A proportion of the stalls are run by charities & the others by well known local organisations all being a great attraction over the years for hundreds of people.  In fact The Green is always filled to capacity with stalls offering jewellery, homemade cakes, art, plants, books, toys, sweets, bric a brac etc. to mention just a few. http://www.visitwesterham.org.uk/whats-on/w-rotary-fair-2012
