Kent A lifetime adventure on his mobility scooter Kent

Reg Marchant of Skeynes Road, Edenbridge - is at last on his way to his dream "Trip of a Lifetime".

The date is now set for him, his family, crew and all his loyal supporters to head towards the Dorset town of Poole, where Reg will begin his epic journey on Saturday 2nd April.

At about 2.30 Reg will set off from the R.N.L.I. Lifeboat Station at Poole to begin the trip which he has dreamed about and planned for years on his specially designed mobility scooter. He and his wife have gone through many moments of despair, frustration and anxiety in raising the sponsorship needed to cover this fantastic journey, which will cover over 5, 500 miles around the coast of Britain, in every endeavour for Reg to visit as many lifeboat stations as possible.

Reg was inspired to make this trip on behalf on the R.N.L.I. for those who receive no pay and volunteer their lives in rescuing others at sea, not only in calm waters but in seas above gale force mounting 20-30 foot waves!

This is by no means is an easy feat for Reg, as has suffered from post polio syndrome since early childhood, and also he is a pensioner. Reg is small in stature but big in heart to take on this challenge, as this should be the time for him to put his feet up and take it easy by pottering around the garden or watching TV, but his sheer enthusiasm for this adventure is only beaten by his utter determination and courage to complete this epic journey.  It will certainly be gruelling, tough and hard for Reg, for his mobility scooter only goes about 8 mph and will he have to cover many miles on roads that are poorly surfaced and potholed.

A lifetime adventure on his mobility scooter

Last year Reg had to sadly postpone his trip due to lack of sponsors, the recession and unable to get the required equipment all in place for the trip.

Now with renewed vigour and the assistance desperately needed he now finds that this year he will be able to say with confidence to all his team - Let's Go...!!!

Many local Edenbridge residents and friends both near and far have given very generously to Reg for his "Trip of a Lifetime" and he is heartwarmingly indebted to all of them in helping to finance his dream project.

Reg has always been a very keen amateur photographer, and will take many hundreds if not thousands of images along the route, that will be compiled at a later date to design a calendar that will be on sale to the public, the funds raised will go to - The British Polio Fellowship & the R.N.L.I. charities.

Although the date for him to start his trip is now on, Reg is still looking for some sponsorship from those wishing to support him, as he needs expenses to cover more batteries for his scooter, wet weather clothing, campsite fees and fuel for those in the support vehicles...if you can assist with any of these desperately needed items then please phone Reg on...01732 865068 or e-mail him at scoot4life@talktalk.net

Reg would like to personally thank those who have not only provided monetary funds to assist his trip but Chichester Caravans and Day's Healthcare, and those friends who have supported him from the moment his idea was made known

He will keep everyone up to date by writing down his daily adventures and his progress will be seen on Facebook...so for all of us that are determined to see Reg at the finishing line, please follow his daily report on the internet.

This extremely difficult trip will see Reg on his mobility scooter for hours on end every day, his endurance and stamina will be tested to the limit, but Reg is so full of determination and tenacity that he is positive that he will give his very best to reach the finishing line and fulfill his lifetime's ambition.
