Theatre Royal Margate
Following their huge success at The Edinburgh Festival in 2008 and a subsequent national tour, three of Covent Garden's well loved street performers bring their own shockingly new and very English version of HAMLET to Theatre Royal Margate 29 May as part of a national tour.
This is Hamlet as it might have been if Shakespeare had written it - as a comedy - a cross between Mr Bean and James Bond!
The backdrop of the story is Elsinore castle, but made entirely from suitcases (well what else?) . This is Hamlet with all the best bits, all the well-known quotes (and some completely made-up ones too), and loads of the gags that Shakespeare wishes he’d kept in!
Performed by Ben Langley (who also wrote it), Andrew Fettes and Mike Raffone . Ben, Mike and Drew use their famous street theatre routines including the straight jacket escape and acts used by Paul Daniels and Tommy Cooper to get through a carry on romp of a show with songs and some rather camp dancing.
Ben has worked in London's Covent Garden as a Street Performer for the last thirteen years, he won The Bristol Harbour Festival Street Performer of the Year award performing his one man show which has taken him lots of places and he has even performed twice at parties at Mel Smith's house. Ben created Ha Ha Hamlet and the show premiered on March 31st 2007 selling out. Relieved at this success, he quickly wrote Ha Ha Homicide! a comedy murder mystery who-dunnit, this too sold out. This is the first time that the show will have toured in the UK.
Andrew Fettes trained as a proper actor and has been seen in many productions around the country not forgetting his famous role on TV as one of the Iceland Penguins! A regular pantomime performer, he has earned the reputation of “the shortest, loudest villain you love to hate”. Andrew is much sought after for his look-a-like tribute to Manuel from Fawlty Towers and appears in venues and at events countrywide.
Mike Raffone's the "clever one" he studied a performing arts degree at Leicester De Montford University and graduated with high honours. He works as an actor, a Cabaret Artiste . Since 1988 Mike has also regularly performed as a Street Performer and over the years become one of Covent Garden’s hit artistes, entertaining thousands of people each year with his comedy escapology show, “The Great Escape”. Artiste.
